If you’re not a member of DanceMinder you may be wondering what kind of information is saved as part of your account. Here’s a look at how to sign up and what information you need to supply and what’s optional.
The first step of course is to sign up. This can be done through the Account menu.
You’ll be taken to the Sign Up page where you can choose a User Name, password and where you can enter your email address.
Click on Create My Account, and the process will begin for verifying that you are who you say you are.
You’ll receive a verification email (make sure to check your spam box if you haven’t received it after a few minutes) and once you click the link you’ll be taken back to DanceMinder as a full user. The first place you should visit is the Account Settings page where you can fill out your information. Most of it’s optional.
If you prefer, you can also create an account using your existing Facebook, Twitter and Google accounts.
Simply click on any of the three icons and you’ll be given an opportunity to authorize DanceMinder to receive some basic information and you’ll be taken back to DanceMinder as a full user again.
As an example, here’s what you would see if you chose to log in with your Google account.
After you have a DanceMinder account you can link it to multiple social accounts by going to the Account menu and choosing the Linked option.
You can add and remove accounts at will.
The only field on the Account Settings screen that’s required is your email address, so that you can be contacted by admins if necessary and your password can be reset if you forget it. The other fields are completely optional.
Why do we ask for this information? In the future you’ll be able to search for other users so having your real name available will be helpful.
We’ll also be adding a feature that interfaces with sets.ie so that you can find upcoming dances near you, so having your postal code and/country will be needed.
The other fields may be used for other features in the future at which point we’ll make an announcement and remind you to fill out those fields if you want to take advantage of those features.
Note that while DanceMinder uses the information on the Account Settings page, none of this information will be shared with other users without your explicit permission. This permission is controlled through the next page.
The Account Profile page contains the information about you which is made public to other user.
This page contains your User Name (required) which is the name that people will see when looking at dances you’ve entered and collections you’ve created.
Your picture (avatar) is optional and by default everyone gets the DanceMinder logo. If you’d like to change your avatar just click the Browse button and choose a picture from your computer. It will be sent to the DanceMinder server and re-sized appropriately.
The rest of the information is completely optional. Share as much or as little as you.
In particular you’ll want to scroll to the bottom of the page and select how much of the information from the Account Settings page you want to share and also if you want to be notified when new dances are published.
The option for being notified when new dances are submitted for publishing will only be shown if you have been made an Editor or Admin.
