Description:
This set was given to us by Michael Slattery, who lives near Ballykeale, near Kilfenora in Co Clare. The set was composed from memories of dance movements in the Ballykeale area, just up the road from Kilfenora.
Please note that the last figure is NOT danced to a hornpipe. A quadrille is similar to a slow reel, much faster than a hornpipe and played with a with a smooth rhythm.

| 4 | Everyone Arches First top couple form an arch, gent’s right hand holding the lady’s left, as the lady gives her right hand to the gent on her right, taking his left hand. Top couple now face left, with top lady inside and all the other dancers in the set now take hands in a circle, except the leading (top) gent and the lady on his left. who do not hold hands. Lead by the side lady left of tops, the other three couples dance in a line under the arch made by the top couple, dancing around anticlockwise to their own places. First top gent dances clockwise around outside the line as they approach the arch and they pass outside or behind him after passing under the arch. Top lady also dances under the arch at the end as she releases the side gent’s hand, going last in line and turning anticlockwise under her partner’s left arm as he dances clockwise around her into his place. Then all couples take waltz hold again. |
