Durrow Threshing Set

Description:


This set, as rememberd by Jack Fitzpatrick, was revived by the Durrow set dancer with help and encouragement from Michael Loughnane of Thurles.

First sides are to the right of first tops, gents lead out on the left foot and the ladies on the right.
The battering is as follows: Dance 1-2-3, 2-2-3 forward for both lead around and advance or backward when retiring and then 1-2-3, 2-2-3 in place.  The in-place battering is danced with a down step on the inside foot a heel-toe-heel-toe-heel-toe batter with the outside foot and repeated.

Long lead around All couples lead around, holding right hands. Dance two bars, battering in each position on the way around.

Dance around Top couples dance around the centre anticlockwise, ladies in front, turning clockwise under the gents' right hands in each position.

3 Advance and batter Still holding right hands, top couples advance to the centre, batter on the spot, retire and batter on the spot.   8
4 Lead around Top gents join hands and lead around the centre, turning the lady with the right hand and battering in each position.   16

2 Arch Top couples take their partners' near hands and dance across with the second couple passing under and arch made by the top couple, second lady in front of the gens.  In opposite position, all take their partners' other hands and face back to home, ladies now on the left of their partners.  Dance back to home, top couple passing under the arch this time.   8
3 Ladies chain Top lady turns into place beside her partner.   8
4 Swing inside Top gen places his right arm over his partner's shoulder taking her hand. Opposite couple swing, moving across to leave the lady beside the top gent who places his arm over her shoulder, taking her hand.  Second gent takes the ladies' other hands.   8
5 Wheelbarrow The three advance as the second gent retires to place (2b) then the ladies turn to join the second gent, top lady clockwise and second lady anticlockwise (2b) all dance back to the centre (2b) and the ladies turn out again to form a circle (2b).   8
6 Swing in four Top couples swing in four. The gents' hands are around the ladies' waists and the ladies' hands on the gents' shoulders. 8
