Description:

This beautiful waltz is danced in many parts of Ireland, particularly at céilithe in the North of Ireland. Slightly different versions of it are danced from place to place. All couples start the dance facing around the room anticlockwise, with ladies on the right-hand side of their partners.

1 Everyone
Forward and back Holding near hands, step forward on the outside foot, swinging the other foot forward, then step back on the inside foot, pointing the outside toe in front.

2 Slide Dance forward, starting on the outside foot - 1 (pause), 2, 3 (turning to face back on three). 2
3 Dance back Dance 1 and 2 in the opposite direction, all turning in to face partner and taking both hands on ‘3’. 4
4 Swing the foot around Bring the back foot (gent’s left, lady’s right) across in front of the other one, then bring the other foot (gent’s right, lady’s left) across behind and point the toe, tapping the floor. 2
5 Swing the foot back Repeating the last movement with opposite feet, bring the back foot (gent’s right, lady’s left) across in front of the other one, then bring the other foot (gent’s left, lady’s right) across behind and point the toe, tapping the floor. 2
6 Back to back Dance two turns, turning out from partner, (gent anticlockwise, lady clockwise), moving in an anticlockwise direction. Touch near hands (gent’s right, lady’s left) after the first turn. 4
7 Step and swing Take both hands wide at shoulder height facing each other, right hand in partner’s left. Advance left shoulder to left, stepping on the right foot and swinging the left foot forward past your partner, then step back on the left foot, pointing the right toe. 2
8 Change sides With the lady turning clockwise under her partner’s left arm, crossing and turning anticlockwise until right around, to face each other from the other side. 2
9 Step and swing Take both hands wide at shoulder height facing each other, right hand in partner’s left. Advance left shoulder to left, stepping on the right foot and swinging the left foot forward past your partner, then step back on the left foot, pointing the right toe. 2
10 Change sides back With the lady turning clockwise under her partner’s left arm, crossing and turning anticlockwise until right around, to face each other from the other side. 2
11 Slide All face around the room anticlockwise in waltz hold, with gents turned slightly towards the wall and ladies towards the centre. With the gent starting on the left foot and the lady starting on the right, all dance (slide) 1, 2, 3, forward (2 bars) and repeat, sliding back (2 bars). 4
12 Waltz Turning clockwise twice. 4
