Description:
Simple 2-person dance done to a hornpipe. Couples form a ring around the dance floor with gents’ backs to the center of the room and dance in this formation.
Good for newbies, children, and anyone wanting to practice housing or doubling.

These two movements can be danced the entire time, or the first can be changed to the advance and retire style. Dancers' choice.
1 | Everyone Side Step In waltz hold, couples hop lightly then slide (step, together, step...) to the gent's left, one step per counts 2 through 7, pausing on 8. Gents step first hop on their right and step onto the left foot; ladies hop left, step right. Repeat to the gent's right / lady's left with opposite feet. Repeat to both sides one more time. |

This is one of many possible variations to the dance. This "figure" can stand alone as the complete dance, or the beginning advance-and-retire can be swapped with the side step.
1 | Everyone Advance and Retire In waist hold (lady's left hand on gent's near shoulder, his right arm around her waist), couples step forward for half a bar of music, forward again on the opposite foot, then step lightly in place 3 times in the second bar of music. Repeat in the next 2 bars, stepping backward. Repeat forward and backward one more time. Ladies start by stepping onto their right foot, gents onto their left. |
